Musings on the Social Brain

Science and technology have given mankind great insight into himself.  Conversely, it is for the avoidance of human suffering that we alter science and technology the most.  And this brings me to many questions.

Is human need what drives our intuition?  Is survival the most powerful social emotion?

And if so, can we not as a “warring nation” turn our focus away from battling individual enemies?  Swatting flies from the desert air. Can we not regroup and learn to survive in the presence of our enemy?

Instead, if we concern ourselves with community building, could we not only heal the wounds of our enemies children but inspire long-term global economic stability?   (note, i did not write “nation” building.  I observe healthy people self-organize quite well without alien assistance. Thank you very much.)

Can we not end war yet? Really??

Do we lack the technology to bring peace?  Or do we lack the disease, disaster or lame ass human predicament to inspire the science to engender hope?

Watch the folk who study brains at the round table discussing autism, and ask yourself if this discussion leads one to arrive that curtailing human aggression is not only a possible, but an inevitable future in applications of neuro-scientific research.
