Chicago Shakespeare Theater
Evidently the only good news (genuinely good*) streaming in on the press lines today is from the arts. Every morning Americans watch the daily animated pundits chatter today’s stories; and as always, it is laden with missing children, economic stress, health risk, and bitter battles (or at least staged bitter battles) on Capitol Hill. Yet in between all the urgent sound effects of Pop Media, the good* news trickles out as it always has, on the backs of le artes . My favorite story today is not the release of a new record or a huge outdoor festival; instead, I am thinking about the Chicago Public Schools putting on Shakespeare and inspiring a city of children to examine the complex language of Old English.
If anyone has ever tried to organize an artistic endeavor at this scale, you know it takes a lot of people to make an arts movement occur. It takes the support of, not only the creators of such ambitious projects, but the family and friends of everyone involved. It takes a village to support the arts.
With that said, I want to reach out to all my family and friends in support of my friend MAMA LUZ , an inspired young Spanish teacher ,who through the power of music, is teaching young kids to speak Spanish. She is making a record, and if you would like to donate as little as $5 to this project, you can become one of those many villagers who make the arts good*.
